massage therapist

David Elge is a massage therapist (Heilmasseur in Austrian terminology) with a special affinity for musicians, not least of all thanks to his wife, cellist Elena Cheah. A native Berliner, he established his own practice in Berlin-Mitte in 2010 and soon became a household name for the many professional musicians who call the city home. His clients include leading musicians from the Berlin Philharmonic, the Staatskapelle Berlin, instrumental soloists, and internationally renowned opera singers.

His unique approach to holistic medicine combines diverse massage techniques such as osteopathic and joint-mobilization methods with hypnosis and strength training to prevent injuries and ensure long-term health and ease of performance for his clients. As a certified Pilates instructor, David also offers personal training and one-on-one Pilates sessions.

He and his wife Elena had always dreamt of living in the mountains; finally, in the summer of 2021, after decades in Berlin, they relocated to Hallein, where they enjoy alpine and cultural pursuits and are tolerated by their two cats.

Elena Cheah, cellist, writer, and certified Martha Beck Wayfinder Coach, is a member of the Hegel Quartet and professor for cello at the Music University of Freiburg. After graduating from The Juilliard School, she very spontaneously moved to Berlin, where she continued her higher education with Boris Pergamenschikow at the Musikhochschule Hanns Eisler. She served as principal cellist of the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Staatsoper Berlin, and is the author of the book An Orchestra Beyond Borders.

Since being appointed to her position in Freiburg, her focus has been on rethinking music education and helping students unlearn patterns that stand between them and their highest potential. She started the podcast Out of Rich Darkness with her friend and colleague Prof. Camille Savage-Kroll in 2020, and is now offering workshops for young musicians and others together with her husband, David Elge. Their holistic approach to personal and musical growth focuses on physical and emotional resilience, mindfulness, and intuitive wisdom.
